Meet the Coaches Week 2: Rana’ Wilkins

Week 1 of the Summer League Jr. NBA Fall League lived up to the hype with nail biting finishes, clutch 3 pointers and over 1,500 impressions on our first livestream of “Friday Night Hoops” and we can’t wait to see what the rest of this year has in store.

In preparation for Week 2, we caught up with Sky Coach Rana’ Wilkins who led her team to a 50-48 win over the Mystics in Week 1.

Name: Rana’ Wilkins

Occupation: Basketball Coach

Do you currently coach?  Sierra Vista High School and Las Vegas Basketball Academy

Years Coaching: 4 years

Did you play in high school? Basic High School in Henderson, NV

Did you play in college? I  was injured in the game that took us to State, my senior year at Basic. I was offered the opportunity to red shirt at UNLV but declined.

Who is your favorite NBA coach & why? Coach Popovich because he sees more than just basketball players. Not only is he a great coach on the court, he is aware of what’s going on in the world and isn’t afraid to address it.

How do you think the Summer League Jr. NBA Basketball League helps players? This league helps players have a unique experience that is like nothing else Las Vegas offers. Many local kids will get overlooked or not have the opportunity to play basketball for financial reasons. This league allows players to come experience and develop a love for the game, at no cost.

Is there something cool about you or a hobby you enjoy that we may not know about you? I went to school for computer science with a focus on programming.

If Hollywood made a movie of your life, who would you choose to play you? Charlize Theron seems like a good option. Not sure if she can hoop, Ha Ha!
